Comparison and Contrast Essay: Difference of the Two

There are various movies with different genres. Romance is one of the most common genres where by a story of a girl being able to find her prince is dominant among movie themes. “A Cinderella Story” and “Ella Enchanted” are somehow the live-action version of their animated, Disney counterparts. However, they do not follow the exact plot as the animation has. The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast “A Cinderella Story” and “Ella Enchanted” in terms of the main character, the settings and the plot.

“A Cinderella Story” is about a girl named Sam whose father is dead. She obeys every order of her stepmom for she needs her financial support in college even though she is being mistreat. The movie happens during contemporary period or modern one wherein she lives in a subdivision, works at a diner and studies in a university. She was able to meet the gut first through cyber space. When the guy found out her true identity, he ignored her every time they meet in school. He was afraid that his popularity would be ruin if he had a relationship with her. After the girl made him realize how stupid he was for lying to himself, he apologized to the girl and they got together. It ended with Sam being able to go to college through the inheritance left by her father and being together with the guy as they entered college.

On the other hand, “Ella Enchanted” focuses on a girl named Ella who was given the gift of obedience made her follow every order of other people even if it is against her will. The story took place around the forest and the town where a castle was present. It happened during the medieval period wherein females always wear long skirts and never wear shorts or pants. Ella met the prince by chance as they bumped into each other as the prince tried to hide from his fans. Even if he knew that she lives a normal life with no power and wealth, he grew fond of her for she was different than the others. They had a conflict wherein he thought that she was going to kill him. It was the spell that made her to attempt to kill him but it was because of her love for the prince that she was able to break the spell. It ended with their marriage and the girl having escaped from her curse.

The two stories have different presentations of how a girl’s life could be but still, they tend to have similarities since they have same theme. Both movies have evil stepmothers and two stepsisters. Both stories that show that as long as the main characters have hope and will to solve all challenges, the stories would surely have a happy ending.

As one can see, two or more movie could have the same theme for their plots yet there would still be differences between them such as the kind of characters, the settings and the plot itself. Upon discussing these points, one could see the difference between reality and fantasy. Though the fictional movie has some good points, the realistic one could give the glimpse of possibilities on how one could meet his true love and how one could pass through the struggles. In short, watching modern and realistic film is a better foundation on how one could look at life rather than believing things that are unlikely to happen.

These movies are some of my favorite ones which I have watched five to ten times already. It was difficult for me to enumerate every detail that I know from both movies which could be helpful in making a comparison between the movies and which could be significant to my thesis statement. I was confused of how I should write the difference between the two, especially their plots. I am satisfactorily satisfied with it but I would like to add more similarities between the two and more qualities or characteristics of the main characters.
